Hampton Beach State Park Redevelopment Project

Update – March 11, 2010

Yesterday at the state house, the Governor and Council voted to accept the Construction Management contract for the Hampton Beach Redevelopment Project.  Harvey Construction Corporation of Bedford will oversee the construction of the entire redevelopment project.  The construction project will span over the next year and a half and cost roughly $12.8 million.  Funding comes from the 2010-2011 Capital Budget.

“The Department has been working closely with the Bureau of Public Works in this process of hiring Harvey Construction,” stated Commissioner George Bald, Department of Resources and Economic Development (DRED).  “This major project for the state will not only enhance the state park facilities but add more guest services.”

Harvey Construction was selected from twelve companies that submitted bids.  The selection was based on experience and general qualifications to undertake a project of this size and scope, as well as guaranteed maximum price. Harvey Construction possesses a diverse project background ranging from government facilities to hospitals to schools.  They have a proven record of projects being delivered on-time and below budget.  “Being a NH-based construction firm, it means a great deal to us to be involved in the redevelopment of Hampton Beach,” John Zahr, President, Harvey Construction Corporation.  “Not only will we be able to deliver outstanding facilities to the State but we will be able to do so by utilizing local, NH resources and labor.  We are very excited to be the State’s construction manager on this project.”

The Hampton Beach Redevelopment Project includes the construction of two bathhouses at the north (near the Marine Memorial) and south (near Haverhill Street) ends of the promenade, as well as a new Seashell complex.  The project also consists of upgrades and improvements to portions of the seawall, parking lots and promenade.  Construction will be done in two phases with the two bathhouses being completed by September 2010 in phase one.  The Seashell Complex will be phase two; it will begin in September 2010 and be completed by November 30, 2011.
